General Motors

Additional Details

General Motors Company (GM) is one of the largest American multinational corporations specializing in the manufacture, design, and distribution of automobiles and their spare parts. GM's role indirectly supports the Israeli military by supplying it with engines, spare parts, and tactical logistics vehicles used in its military operations and command and control missions. Israeli special forces use the Flyer 72 rapid infiltration and patrol vehicle (manufactured by Flyer Defense in cooperation with General Dynamics). These combat vehicles rely entirely on GM engines and have been used extensively in recent field operations and wars. In 2022, the Israeli Ministry of Defense signed a 100 million shekel (approximately $27 million) contract with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) to produce hundreds of tactical vehicles for special forces units. These vehicles (in various models such as the ZD and Z-MAG) are equipped with engines and components manufactured by General Motors and are purchased entirely through the US military aid budget. General Motors' Chevrolet brand won an official tender from the Israeli Ministry of Defense to supply more than 100 pickup trucks for military and logistical field use, funded by US military aid. The Israeli Army's Robotics Lab used GM-supplied Chevrolet Colorado models as a base for modifying and developing them into self-driving military vehicles for deployment on dangerous reconnaissance missions on the front lines. The support extends beyond combat vehicles to include support for security systems and surveillance networks. Human rights reports have documented the use of GM's Chevrolet Grumman inspection vans as mobile screening platforms equipped with cargo scanners at fixed and temporary military checkpoints in the West Bank (such as Hamra, Huwwara, and Ma'ale Efraim) to search Palestinian citizens. The Israeli Prison Service (IPS) and the police also utilize Chevrolet Savana and Chevrolet Tahoe models and trucks to transport detainees and conduct patrols and logistical control. European military publications, such as European Security & Defence (ESD), have highlighted direct military cooperation deals between General Motors' military division and Israeli defense companies. A prime example of this cooperation was GM Defense's partnership with the Israeli company UVision to develop customized versions of the Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV) to be equipped and armed with advanced Hero-120 suicide drones designed for precision strikes in complex operational theaters. -- Listed on NYSE (GM), General Motors is backed by leading sovereign wealth funds, most notably NBIM.
