Flyer Defense is a private, Los Angeles-based manufacturer of military tactical vehicles, founded by Israeli special forces veteran Oded Nechushtan. In October 2023, the company provided Israel with units of its Flyer 72 patrol vehicle, which it developed in partnership with General Dynamics. The vehicle is powered by a General Motors engine. Israel was reportedly testing these vehicles because it wants to purchase tactical utility vehicles using U.S. military aid, rather than relying solely on its other supplier of similar vehicles, the Israeli company IAI. In September 2024, it was reported that Israel was poised to receive 60 additional Flyer 72 tactical vehicles, funded by U.S. financial assistance.
