Additional Details

Carrefour Group is a French multinational retail and wholesale company that operates over 12,000 supermarkets and convenience stores in Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America. The French retailer Carrefour announced in March 2022 its arrival in Israel through a franchise partnership with the Israeli group Electra Consumer Products and its subsidiary Yeinot Bitan. In May 2023, Carrefour CEO Alexandre Bompard traveled to Raanana, a suburb of Tel Aviv, to inaugurate a hypermarket under the Carrefour banner. The opening of 50 stores in Israel under this banner was announced on that occasion, and in a video filmed in front of a Carrefour storefront, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hailed it as "excellent news for the citizens of Israel." Under the agreement, Yeinot Bitan's existing stores will be converted to the Carrefour brand. Yeinot Bitan operates stores in at least three illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank, according to the Palestinian human rights organization Al-Haq. These will also be converted into new Carrefour stores. Yeinot Bitan's parent company, Electra Consumer Products, is owned by the Israeli holding company Elco Ltd., whose other subsidiary, Electra Ltd., facilitates the expansion of Israel's illegal settlement enterprise through the construction and maintenance of real estate, roads, public buildings, transport systems, and other infrastructure that services settlements. Electra Ltd. was included in the 2020 United Nations database of companies doing business in illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory. As of 2025, Carrefour has closed its stores in Jordan, Oman, Kuwait, and Bahrain. -- Listed on Euronext Paris (CA), Carrefour Group is backed by leading sovereign wealth funds, most notably NBIM and BlackRock .
