Additional Details

Rolls-Royce Holdings plc was the world's 22nd largest weapons manufacturer as of 2023. Its German subsidiary, Rolls-Royce Power Systems AG, owns the engine manufacturer MTU Friedrichshafen GmbH. Merkava Tanks (Marks 4 & 5) & Namer APCs: Powered by MTU’s MT-883 engine, which represents the most significant component of the Merkava manufactured outside of Israel. Eitan Armored Fighting Vehicle: Powered by Rolls-Royce's 8V199TE21-D power pack (combining an MTU-6V890 engine and an Allison 4800 transmission). MTU engines power roughly 80% of Israel's naval boats (based on a 2015 estimate), specifically the Super Dvora and Shaldag patrol boats used to enforce the naval blockade of the Gaza Strip. While MTU manufactures most components in Germany, engines destined for Israel are assembled in Novi, Michigan, by U.S. subsidiary Rolls-Royce Solutions America . This U.S. assembly allows Israel to acquire the engines via the U.S. government's Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program. Israeli tanks, particularly those of the 401st Brigade which operates the Merkava 4 and 5, have been notorious for committing numerous crimes and widespread destruction during the ground invasion across all cities and villages of the Gaza Strip. Among these crimes was the killing of six-year-old child Hind Rajab, her family, and the rescue team that attempted to save her in January 2024. They were also implicated in an incident on June 3, 2025, which resulted in the killing of 27 Palestinians at a food aid distribution point, alongside documented reports of running over civilians alive and destroying public and private property. Furthermore, Merkava tanks were deployed in systematic attacks and sieges targeting medical infrastructure protected under international law. This included Al-Shifa Hospital (in November 2023 and March 2024), the Indonesian Hospital, Kamal Adwan Hospital (November–December 2023), and Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis. Countless photos and videos circulating across the internet clearly document and expose the involvement of these tanks in those crimes. -- Listed on LSE (RR.), Rolls-Royce is backed by leading sovereign wealth funds, most notably NBIM and KIA .
