MyHeritage is an Israeli online genealogy company with web, mobile, and software products and services, founded in Israel in 2003. Users of the platform can create family trees, upload and browse photos, and search through over 19.9 billion historical records, among other features. In early 2021, it was acquired by Francisco Partners, an American private equity firm, for $600 million. As of 2023, the service supported 42 languages. In 2016, it launched a genetic testing service called MyHeritage DNA, which grew to include more than 6.5 million DNA kits in the company's database by March 2023. The company is headquartered in Or Yehuda, Israel. MyHeritage was founded by Israeli entrepreneur Gilad Japhet, who continues to serve as the company's CEO. Many of the new companies in Israel are founded by individuals who have come out of Unit 8200 , a unit within the Israeli Intelligence Corps of the Israel Defense Forces - Israel's equivalent of Britain's GCHQ or America's NSA - a "signals intelligence" agency which has moved heavily into cyber-operations.
